

Gossett, Mary Evelyn Brooks, age 84, of Knoxville, was escorted by the angels and received into glory to be with her Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, August 5, 2011. She had a profound Christian Faith that was seen by all who knew her. Her life was a witness to the saving grace of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit that had a tremendous impact on her family. Evelyn was a member of Graystone Presbyterian Church and also attended Sevier Heights Baptist Church. She was a former organist at Evangel Temple Assembly of God and Eastwood Baptist Church. Evelyn was also a former violinist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. She graduated from Fort Sanders School of Nursing in 1950 and was a Registered Nurse at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee and Knox County Health Department. Evelyn retired from Lakeshore Mental Health Institute. Preceded in death by parents, Claude M. Brooks and Myrtle Lee Riley Brooks; husband, John Edwin Gossett; sister, Louise Brooks. She is survived by sons, Jack Gossett, of North Carolina and Bill Gossett, of Knoxville; grandson, Acer Gossett, of Arizona. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Graystone Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dan Hix and Rev. Ann Brunger officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
