Mary Louise Shrout Sams, aged 97, passed away peacefully at her home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on September 2, 2024. Born on April 14, 1927, in Owingsville, Kentucky, Louise lived a full and vibrant life.
She was a proud graduate of Winchester High School in Winchester, Kentucky, and went on to build a loving family with her husband, Arnold Sams, whom she married on December 28, 1950. Louise was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found great joy in her faith and community.
Louise's passions included genealogy, crochet, drawing, and ceramics, which she pursued with great enthusiasm throughout her life. Her creativity and dedication to her interests left a lasting impact on her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold Sams, and her younger brother, William Henry Shrout, Jr.
Louise is survived by her children, Dr. Stephen A. Sams of Auburn, Alabama; Joseph E. Sams and wife Laura Vinyard Sams of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Sylvia K. Sams of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Kitty Sue Damron Shrout. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Leah Sams Shivers and husband Shaun, Joseph A. Sams, Joshua E. Sams and wife Shelby, and Jeremiah W. Sams and wife Sarah. She was also cherished by her great-grandchildren, Cary, Isabella, Lillian, Malachi, Allison, Ezra, Joseph, and Asher.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:30 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 140 S Jefferson Circle, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
Services in Winchester, Kentucky, will take place on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 W Lexington Ave, Winchester, KY 40391. The receiving of friends will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Winchester Cemetery.
Louise's memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and her love and legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
