Melvia Clabough Knott, age 94, went peacefully to her heavenly home on Wednesday March 24, 2021. Melvia was a long-time member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Melvia was the first- born child of seven siblings. She attended Bearden High School and Knoxville Business College and worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory during World War II, and she retired from Travelers Insurance. She was a loving mother and grandmother dedicated to serving and caring for others. Melvia was preceded in death by her husband James Malcolm Knott, several brothers and sisters, and her special friend Chuck Hardway. She is survived by her two daughters, Janice K. Ely (A. C. Ely) and Linda K. Tillery, four grandchildren, Gretchen E. Ely (Jeff Dabbelt), Kristin E. Ely (Kelly Proffitt), Justin R. Flynn (Teresa Kohl), Stephanie E. Flynn (Chanci Flynn), three great grandchildren, Ariel E. Ely, Alan E. Dabbelt, and Brian C. Dabbelt, and one great-great grandson, Chance Fishetti. At Melvia's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Lupus Foundation of America. The family wishes to thank the staff of Elmcroft Assisted Living and the wonderful hospice staff at Amedisys for their contributions to Melvia's end-of-life care.
