Mildred Louise Lynch Altman
September 21, 1928 – December 15, 2012
Altman, Mildred Carroll Lynch, age 84, of Knoxville, passed away early Saturday morning at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. Mildred was raised in the Karns community and was a 1946 Graduate of Karns High School. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, she began her career as an elementary school teacher. Most of her career was spent at West Haven Elementary School. She is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Wesley Builders Sunday School Class. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, R.E. and Edna Miller Carroll; husbands, Boyd S. Lynch and more recently, James J. Altman; brothers, Ralph E. and Allen H. Carroll and nephews, Eddy Allen and Buzz Carroll. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Larry Wolfe of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jennifer Lynch, of Orlando, Fl. grandchildren, Allison Paschel, Caroline and Andrew Wolfe; great grandchild, Crusoe Paschel; sister, Betty Duke and husband Bill; brothers, James R. Carroll and wife, Mary and Buddy Carroll and wife, Ferol, sister-in-laws Evelyn Carroll and Mary C. Carroll, and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends 5 – 7 PM Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with a funeral service to follow at 7 PM. Rev. Don Thomas will be officiating. Family and friends will meet Thursday at Lynch Bethel Cemetery for a 12 Noon interment service. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Trinity UMC, 5613 Western Ave. Knoxville, TN 37921. Mildred will always be remembered as a Woman with a heart of gold and a spine of steel.... She is the kind of woman that every little girl should strive to be. It was a gift to know her and a treasure that my children got to know her and be loved by her.

Mrs. Lynch was my first grade teach some 40 years ago at West Haven but I always remember her with the fondest memories, she made me love education by treating all her students special. She was the greatest teacher ever!

I was so sorry to read of Mildred's passing. What a wonderful neighbor for all those years. Patti, you were one of my favorites in school. Steve, you're a grandfather??? How time flies!!! Mildred had Carol's wedding shower 24 years ago. What a wonderful family and special people to me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. She was a jewel.
