Naomi June Pursell

Naomi June Pursell, age 71, of Rockford, Tennessee, formerly of Maryville, Tennessee and the Washington State area, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. She was born March 13, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Naomi spent her childhood in Tennessee, and finally returned. Naomi had a love of reading and solving mysteries. She also had a talent for repairing impossibly broken grandchildren's toys, rewiring a defective lamp, or replacing a bad starter in a car. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. Naomi is preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Gertrude Dyson; and brother, Mark Dyson. She leaves behind her loving husband of 24 years, John Roger Pursell, Jr.; children, Holly Noel McFarland (Boone, Iowa), Penny Jean Weldon (Knoxville, Tennessee), Darcy Hope McFarland (Marysville, Washington); step-son, Shea Pursell (Elk Grove, California); brothers, John Dyson (Kingsport, Tennessee) and Bill Dyson (Puyallup, Washington); as well as her 15 beloved grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 11:00 - 1:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM, Rev. Kirby Ownby officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, family only will proceed to Mt. Olive Cemetery for interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International, 711 Hall of Fame Dr, Knoxville, TN 37917, in Naomi's honor.
