Noel Jerry Mackey, 93, passed peacefully at home on June 18, 2026. Born on December 23, 1932, and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, he lived a life marked by steady devotion to others and a quiet strength that never sought attention, yet was felt by all who knew him.
For more than 54 years, Noel worked at Mackey’s Barber Shop in Marble City, where his hard work and thoughtful care became as familiar as the place itself. He approached each day with the kind-hearted steadiness of someone who understood that a good life is built in small, faithful moments—through generosity, compassion, and the simple dignity of showing up for people. Even in the most ordinary exchanges, his warm humor had a way of easing the day and leaving others a little lighter than before.
Noel’s tenderness extended beyond the shop and into the world around him. He had a love for animals, always caring for strays along the way, offering the same gentle attention and quiet kindness that defined his life.
A cherished presence in the lives of those closest to him, Noel was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Taylor Mackey; grandson, Chandler Grayson Mackey; brothers, Charles Mackey and Leon Mackey; and sister, Juanita Tarwater.
He is survived by his sons, Terry Mackey and Tim Mackey (Katie); grandchildren: Lauren, Chase (Adrianna), Deanna (Justin), Valerie (Abbie III), Stratton (Jana); great-grandchildren: Adrianna, Landon, Abbie IV, and Collette; and nephews, Doug Mackey and Steve Tarwater.
Family and friends will meet at 8:15 AM for an 8:30 AM committal service at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, June 26, 2026.
