Nora Joan Cooper age 73 of Knoxville, went to be with Jesus on July 18, 2020. She was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and had her associate membership at Mount Olive Baptist Church on Dandridge Ave. She was a graduate of Karns High School and graduated with honors in Elementary Education at the University of Tennessee. She later taught at Memphis City School and Norwood and Oakwood in Knoxville. She taught remedial reading. She was a self-taught artist (Sister Nora) with a “divine” interest in the hymns. She loved sharing her art with others and loved singing gospel music. Nora wanted to thank her family for their support thru the years and Mt. Olive for transportation to church and all the other support they gave. She is preceded in death by her precious parents, Clarence and Clara (Sis) Mays and her sister, Pat Price. Survived by son, Casey Justin (Julie) Cooper; grandson, Colby Cooper; brother-in-law, Larry Price; niece, Jill (Mark) Akers; great-niece and nephew, Bailey and Brady Akers; longtime friend, Bertie Michaels. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Wednesday at Weaver’s Chapel with the service to follow at 7 pm. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Thursday at Highland Memorial Cemetery for an 11 am interment.
