Norman was a proud veteran and public servant. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during Desert Storm and later retired from the Air National Guard. In 1982, he was recognized as Airman of the Year for the Military Airlift Command (MAC), a distinction that spoke to his dedication and character.
Following his military service, Norman served as a police officer with the City of Knoxville. During his time on the force, he was shot twice in the line of duty while courageously protecting the community he loved. He carried the bullets of that sacrifice with him for the rest of his life.
Norman was a man of great heart—kind, loyal, and deeply devoted to his family. He gave much of himself for the well-being of others, whether through service or quiet acts of love. He enjoyed traveling, especially on Harley-Davidson rides that covered countless miles and created lasting memories.
His was truly a life well lived—a life of service, love, and strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Charlene Rickman; grandparents, Archie and Cora Brewster and niece, Carolyn Thompkins.
Norman is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Glenda Rickman; son and daughter in law, Tyler and Katy Rickman; son, Christopher Rickman; grandson, Caden Rickman; granddaughter, Emrie Rickman; sisters: Sandy Thompkins, Sherry Hendrickson, Sonya Moyers and Terry; brothers: Ronnie Rickman and Carol, Mike Rickman and Lisa; mother in law, Cathy Bramer; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
