

Brown, Dr. Patricia Ann, age 72 of Knoxville, passed away March 20, 2015 at her home while doing something that she loved to do – gardening. She was a long time South Knoxville resident and elder at Lake Forest Presbyterian Church. She was a retired Supervisor of Music for Knox County Schools from 1987-1997 and was instrumental in developing the first curriculum guide for the school system and the State of Tennessee. She was a special consultant for several music textbook companies and served as an educator and supervisor in Knox County for 34 years. She also helped develop the Tennessee Arts Academy. She shared her musical expertise with the community conducting numerous choral festivals, acting as organist and pianist and youth choir director at Stock Creek Baptist church, serving as music director at New Hopewell Baptist Church, coordinating and conducting the children’s choir at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and leading as handbell choir director at Lake Forest Presbyterian Church. Patricia received her Doctor of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Patricia was a member and officer of many professional organizations including Tennessee Music Educators Association, East Tennessee Vocal Association, Tennessee Elementary Music Association, The Joy of Music Youth Music School, and American Choral Directors Association. She received numerous awards for her contributions to music and education including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Tennessee Arts Academy, Honorary Life Membership in the East Tennessee Vocal Association, and she was inducted into the Educators Hall of Honor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2012. She was preceded in death by parents, John Hoyle and Nellie Brown; brother, Thomas Alan Brown; and nephew, Scott Brown. She leaves behind brother, John (Mike) Michael Brown, Knox County Commissioner, District 9 and wife, Janet Witucki Brown; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and numerous friends. “Aunt Pat” was greatly loved and will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews including: Michelle Allen of Knoxville; Meredith Brown of Alpharetta, GA; Shawn Brown of Birmingham, AL; Sarah Carter and husband, Chris of Pelham, AL; Susan Smith and husband, Shannon of Nashville; Shelly Brown of Nashville; and William Witucki and wife Kasey of Seymour. Her love extended to numerous great nieces and nephews as well including Madison and Michael Brown, Christopher Allen and wife, Amanda, Bella and Cooper Brown, Thomas and Owen Smith, Samantha Carter, Skyler Brown, and Kateyln and Conner Witucki. Patricia loved gardening and was a member of and recently installed as Chaplin of the Chapman Highway Garden Club. She will be missed by the many she touched. We love you, “Aunt Pat”. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 26, 2015, from 5:00-7:00pm at Lake Forest Presbyterian Church. A service will follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Mark Curtis officiating. Family and friends will meet Friday, March 27, 2015, at Stock Creek Cemetery for an 11:00am interment service.
