On November 19, 2022 in Paducah, Kentucky, Patricia Ann Carney Lockett (Patty) crossed over. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and neighbor who was known for her wise advice, quick wit, sense of style, and generous spirit. In 1949, Patty and her husband Pete moved from Paducah, Kentucky to Knoxville, where they had and raised their two children, Sharon and Bill. Pete was the Navy veteran, but it was Patty who ran the tight ship. The couple loved collecting antiques and welcoming friends into their west Knoxville home. Patty lived in Knoxville for 52 years, surrounded by friends, before moving back home to Paducah to be near her sisters.
Patty is survived by her daughter, Sharon Lockett Smith, son-in-law Floyd Smith, granddaughters Bonnie Smith Whitehouse and Kelly Smith Trimble, grandsons-in-law Ben Whitehouse and Derek Trimble, and great-grandsons Henry Smith Whitehouse and Peter Lockett Whitehouse; her son, William Soaper Lockett Jr. (Bill), daughter-in-law Dawn Lenning Lockett, and grandson Stephen Andrew Lockett; and her sisters Sue Carney Chappell and Gayle Carney Crenshaw. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Soaper Lockett (Pete); her parents, Leon and Kathryn Carney; her brother, Paul Gerald Carney; and her grandson, William Soaper Lockett III (Trent).
Funeral rites and a celebration of her life were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, at Grace Episcopal Church in Paducah. There will be an interment of ashes beside her late husband on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
