CATES, PAUL DEAN - age 77 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Fort Sanders Regional. Mr. Cates is a Veteran of the United States Army. Preceded in death by his parents, John Herman and Veda Cates, brother Eddie Cates and granddaughter Taylor Marie Cates. Survivors include his loving wife Shirley Cates, son Rick Cates, daughters Paula Cates and Cathy Cates Strong, grandchildren Jessi Cates, Justin and Blake Strong, Kelli and Staci Cates , brothers Billy R., Jack, Doyle, and Homer Cates, sisters Jessie Mae Mills, Lena Pankey, Bonnie Wilson and Carolyn Spencer, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff of 7 north at Fort Sanders Regional. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8pm at Marbledale Baptist Church on Thorngrove Pike.
