Paul John Mattina

Paul John Mattina, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 93. Paul was born on October 2, 1932, to Charles Mattina of Racalmuto, Italy, and Lena Zammataro Mattina of Brooklyn, New York.

Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, educator, and member of All Saints Catholic Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. He leaves behind a lifetime of love, family, service, and cherished memories.

Paul graduated from Bayside High School in the class of 1950 before earning his degree in Textile Engineering from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, now Jefferson University. Following his education, Paul proudly served his country during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

Paul spent twenty years working in the textile industry in New York City before returning to his alma mater, where he taught textiles until his retirement in 1995. His career as both a textile professional and educator reflected his dedication and love of his chosen field.

Following retirement, Paul and his wife, Connie, enjoyed traveling together. Italy was especially meaningful to Paul, and they treasured their travels there as they explored the country and discovered more about his family roots. Those journeys created memories that would remain special to them throughout their lives.

Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Mattina, and his sister, Marylyn Mattina Zerbarini.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Constance “Connie” Mattina, with whom he shared a beautiful life filled with family, travel, and countless memories. Paul is also survived by his daughter, Lisa Mattamira and her husband, Vincent, of Lewes, Delaware; and his son, Charles Mattina and his wife, Kim, of Apex, North Carolina. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Emily O’Neal, Megan O’Neal, Paige Mattina Burnette, Joseph Mattamira, Michael Mattamira, and Paul Mattina; and four great-grandchildren: Parker Mattina, Landon Mattina, Brooks Burnette, and Lena Burnette.

Paul’s legacy will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many lives he touched throughout his years. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
