Peggy Shannon Ritter, 80, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015. Peggy was born in 1934 to Ted and Ruth Brooks, and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. She married Bob Ritter in 1953 and they moved to Knoxville shortly thereafter. Bob and Peggy have enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 62 years. Peggy made a decision for Christ while still a child and was a longtime member of Sullivan Road Christian Church and more recently a member of Cornerstone Christian Church. She devoted her life to loving and serving others and opened her home to all with generous hospitality. Peggy loved the Lord not only in word but in deed and lived her life as an example of her faith. Along with her husband, Bob, Peggy leaves behind her two beloved sisters, Teddy (&Kenny) Wonder and Phyllis (&Frank) Lundy, both of Kentucky, along with 5 nieces: Connie, Tammy, Kathy, Sabrina, and Kim and their spouses. She is also survived by her three children and their spouses: Steve and Nita Ritter, Jean and Andy Smith, and Mike and Donna Ritter, all of Knoxville. Peggy also leaves behind her eleven grandchildren: Shannon (& Matt) Pickett, Kenny (& Selena) Bell, Andrea (& Reggie) Fritts, Stephanie, Paul, Rebecca, and Michael Ritter, Chris, Trevor and Dylan Ritter, and Caitlyn Smith, as well as her eleven great-grandchildren: Haley and Hannah Bell, Ben and Josh Hillner, Avery Pickett, Gracie, Andrew and Jordan Fritts, and Eli, Ansiley, and Sara Wright. Peggy had a very close relationship with Dana Stevens and Elaine Pyne, mother and grandmother of Haley Bell, as the three of them together cared for the special medical needs of this precious young woman. Peggy leaves behind a magnificent legacy, as each friend and neighbor and relative whose life was touched by her know they were loved and will hold wonderful and lasting memories of their time together. “When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’” I Corinthians 15:54. The family will receive friends on Wednesday June 3, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with the Funeral Service to follow at 7:00pm at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee.
