Peggy married Richard W. Tillery on August 25, 1948 on “The Bride and Groom Show” in Hollywood, CA after meeting at a Jr. Chamber of Commerce production of “Sweethearts”. Richard saw her, turned to his best friend, and said, “I’m going to marry that girl.” And three dates later they became engaged.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Juanita (Shipp) Elliott; husband Richard W. Tillery; son Philip Kingsley Tillery; brother Clarence Elliott, Jr. “Ted”; and sister Mary Virginia “Tazzy” Molster (Bill).
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Ann Spore (Richard) of Lititz, PA; son, Mark Elliott Tillery of Knoxville, TN; sister, Dorothy “Punky” Lonon (Jimmy); grandchildren: Andrew Spore (Lorena), Kelly Hurley (Derek), Tiffany Brill (Jason), Kristin Wright, Eric Wright (Shannon), Alexandra Drewry (Michael); great grandchildren: Tyler Wright, Olivia Wright, Claire Wright, Emilia Hurley, Ryder Drewry, Penelope Drewry, Camila Gonzalez, Lucas Gonzalez; nieces and nephews: Lisa Boone (Terry), Susan Molster (Michael), Page Molster, Alexandra Molster, Richard Elliott, and Karen Arwood.
She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, UMW Circle 8, Service Circle, Ossoli Circle, Shannonham Singers, and O’Conner Singing Seniors.
She was a graduate of Ward Belmont Junior College and the University of Tennessee. She retired from Knox County Schools as an elementary school music teacher.
The family would like to thank all of Peggy’s friends and neighbors for their love and support, and especially to neighbor, Fleida Powell, who was such a faithful caretaker and friend.
Family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway. Family and friends will proceed to Woodlawn Cemetery for a 2:30 PM graveside service, Rev. Don Watkins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Peggy's honor.
