Phillip George Reed

Phillip George Reed, born on November 29, 1943, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the age of 82. A lifelong resident of South Knoxville, Phil graduated from Young High School, class of 1961. He continued his education at ETSU and graduated in 1966. He had a long career in the finance and mortgage industry, and retired in 2016 from Mortgage Investors Group. He was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church.

Phil more affectionately know as Papaw (Pap) loved spending time with his family, especially watching his grandkids sports and activities through the years. He also found joy in his four legged grandchildren (grandogs) all of which found great comfort in his lap. Phil also enjoyed UT sports, boating, his fish tank, beach trips, and road trips with special friends, Paul and Delores Langford.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents Spencer and Margaret Reed.

Survivors include loving wife of 46 years Brenda; children, Brian (Cindy) Reed, Jennifer (David) Farmer, Whitney (Stan) Rudder, Tiffany (Scott) Temple; grandchildren, Kylie (Jordan) Mullins, Caleb (Sarah) Temple, Annie (Austin) Thomas, MacKenzie Rudder, Spencer (Lakyn) Rudder, Ella Farmer; great-grandchildren, Harrison and Brooks Mullins, and arriving soon, River Thomas; Brian and Whitney's mother, Janice Howard.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920, with a service celebrating Phil's life to follow at 7:00 PM. Rev. Chris Morgan officiating.

Family and friends will meet at Mt. Olive Cemetery, 2500 Maryville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920, on Friday, January 9, 2026, for a 10:00 AM interment service.
