

At the age of 83 and following a lengthy illness, Mr. Ralph Donald Branche passed on from this world at 3:00 am, on June the 12th, 2023. He passed peacefully in his bed at his South Knoxville home. Ralph is preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Gladys Clevenger; his mother, Hessie Jo Branche; his beloved son, Kevin Lee Branche; and his faithful dog, Sophie. Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Branche; his daughter, April Montgomery of Monterey, CA; his sons, Travis (Amy) Maples of Crown Point IN, and Nick (Susi) Maples of Knoxville. He is also survived by his brother, Rex Branche of Knoxville. Ralph has 8 grandchildren: Marlee and Monica Montgomery, Lexie (Branche) King and Lindsey Branche, as well as Sadie, Canon, Schafer, and Caroline Maples. To all of them, he was “Poppy”. Additionally, Ralph leaves behind a host of cherished family and friends. Loving of all his children, Ralph could often be seen and heard offering his unconditional and enthusiastic support on the sidelines of ball games. He also attended countless debate sessions, 4-H Camps, concerts, and graduations, usually wielding his video recorder. A talented and prolific artist, Ralph studied at Chicago’s famed American Academy of Art before returning home and earning his BA at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Although he enjoyed a long career as a workers’ compensation claims specialist, art was his first love. Ralph’s other passions included golf, reading, gardening, travelling with his wife, Brenda, and appreciating his extensive and eclectic musical collection. Ralph will be missed by all who knew and loved him.The family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the charitable organization of your choice.
