OBITUARY

Ralph Dexter Rowden

February 7, 1971 – April 2, 2026
Obituary of Ralph Dexter Rowden
IN THE CARE OF

Berry Funeral Home

Ralph Dexter Rowden Jr., known to many as Dexter, passed away at the age of 55. He was called home by the Lord on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 5:40 AM, after a battle with cancer, leaving behind a lasting impression on all who knew and loved him.

Dexter spent his life in Knoxville and was known most for the love he had for his family. He worked various jobs throughout his life, including time at a daycare, an ice cream truck, and the well-known Italian restaurant Louis, but the roles that defined him most were the ones he held within his family.

In his younger years, Dexter carried a strong and sometimes fiery personality. As time went on, he grew into a gentler and kinder man, and in his later years, that softness became more visible to those around him. He became especially cherished by all the staff at Rocky Top Care Center who loved his playful banter and the back-and-forth conversations that brought lightness to their days.

Ralph found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed working on puzzles, spending time fishing, and watching Tennessee Vols football, passions that grounded him and brought him peace.

Above all, Dexter loved his family deeply and was a man of God. He is survived by his only daughter, Emily Mount, and his beloved granddaughter, Allison Mount, they lovingly called him “Papaw Bird.” His love for his girls was profound and unwavering.

He is also survived by his sister, Lisa Breeden, and her husband, Estel Breeden, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Uncles, Tom Dotson and Ricky Dotson his nieces, Britney, Deonna, Jalesa, and Jolene; and his nephews, Robert, Michael, Zephan, Tony, and Dominique, along with their children. And his special friend Sylvia Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter Rowden and Josephine Dotson; Uncle, Jackie Dotson; aunts, Linda Burrows and Kathy Clabough, his sisters, Jodi Rowden and Tammy Rowden; and his nephew, Eric Carter.

Dexter’s presence, his spirit, and the impression he left on this earth may never be forgotten.

Services will be held on Saturday at 6:00 PM at In Christ Ministries Church, 811 Drive E, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920. Berry Funeral Home will have no involvement during the memorial service.
