Bunn, Dr. Raymond C., age 83 of South Knoxville, passed away at home on Friday, December 28, 2012. Raymond’s wife, Nolita Marie was the love of his life. He enjoyed her wonderful cooking and their traveling adventures. Pop was very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Born on March 11, 1929 in Kingsport, Tennessee. Graduate of Dobbins-Bennett High School in Kingsport, East Tennessee State University and University of Tennessee Medical School, Memphis. Dr. Bunn served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. In his early practicing years he served as Assistant Coroner for the Knox County Sheriff’s office. Dr. Bunn was a well known Family Practice physician in South Knoxville and delivered many of South Knoxville's finest. He served as Chief of Staff of Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in 1970, and was on the teaching staff at University Medical Center in the 1970’s. He was a founding member of the South Knoxville On-Call group for Baptist Hospital. He sold his long time physician practice and served as Medical Director of the first Knoxville HMO-Tennessee First Health Source. He volunteered his physician services at Interfaith Health Clinic in the 1990's. Dr. Bunn then worked at Veterans Administration Community Service in the early 2000's. He was an avid UT football fan and a season ticket holder for many years. He was team doctor for several community high schools and was the Tennis coach at South Doyle Middle School with a winning season. Raymond was a man of great faith and taught Adult Sunday School in his earlier years. As a member of Messiah Lutheran Church he was personally involved in the Fish program. He enjoyed many years of boating, fishing and tennis with his family and friends. Dr. Bunn was preceded in death by his parents, Ensor Herchel Bunn and Queen Avereen Covill Bunn; sisters, Virginia Black and Lucille Blankenship. He is survived by his loving wife, Nolita Marie Williamson Bunn; daughters, Sandra Alsup and spouse, Kurt Kemper, Donna Shinlever and spouse, Rev. Kenneth Shinlever, Sharon Alsup and spouse, John Murphy, Claudia Montgomery and spouse Barry, Carol Sparks, Laura Webster and spouse Greg; son, Harrison Alsup and spouse Laurie; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and caregiver, Ann Brooks. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, December 30, 2012 in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy, with funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM, Rev. Pauline Farrington-Pezzino, Rev Eric Murray and Rev. Kenny Shinlever officiating. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday, December 31, 2012 for a 12:00 Noon interment service. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ken Shinlever, Jason Sparks, Chris Sparks, Adam Montgomery, Scott Montgomery and Gideon Alsup. Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
