

Richard Paul Quirk, passed away on February 22, 2016 at age 87. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather. Richard was a native of Bayonne, New Jersey and a Knoxville resident since 1967. He was husband of Betty Sue Quirk, to whom he was married for 50 years. He was member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. He owned his own business which served East Tennessee for more than 35 years. As a young man, he was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. In middle age, he served as scoutmaster of Troop 250 during the 1970’s. As a senior, he
was active in projects to improve Knoxville’s Mechanicsville neighborhood. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; son Paul; brothers John and James; and sister Helen Dorph. He is survived by sister Jane Axtell of Highlands Ranch, CO; brother-in-law Porter Parks and his wife Diane, Springfield, TN; sister-in-law Dorothy Blankner, Franklin, TN; sister-in-law Eleanor Quirk, Little Egg Harbor, NJ; son James Hill and grandsons Aidan and Shane, Bismarck, ND; daughter Mary Ruth, Sevierville, TN; various nieces, nephews, cousins. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, March 31 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville. A funeral Mass for Richard will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2 at 10:00 AM at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 1041 N Central St., with burial at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ASPCA.
