I met Richard for the first time only this past February when he agreed to do a re-upholstery job for me.  Right away I loved his no-nonsense approach to the job--clearly he'd seen it all, including all the ways customers got things wrong so he was very clear about how to get things right! I appreciated his directness, and at the same time, it was very clear that he was a profoundly kind-hearted person.  Sure enough, when I picked up my finished rocker just a few weeks ago, it was very comfortable and very beautifully done, as I imagine all of Richard's work was, but there was also something more. Richard knew that the rocker was a sentimental piece of furniture to me; that it had been our grandparents' rocker.  When I picked up the finished rocker from him, secured underneath the footstool was a little packet he had made from the new upholstery fabric. In the packet were the original decorative pins from the original rocker. When I dropped the rocker off,  I had asked him if it might be possible to reuse those pins. It wasn't, but he remembered how sentimental I was about them.  It was such a kindness and such a sweet grace note to the job to save those pins in such a tender way.  I feel honored to have met Richard.  Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Our thoughts and Prayers are with the family, we in South Carolina were blessed by Richard and his group and Richard's sweet Spirit.

Quoting from his obituaries:  ". . .he was known for being the sweetest, most kind-hearted individual."   I met both Richard and his mother while selling furniture at J C Penney, East Town, and West Town.

He was the most talented upholster I have known, and one of the kindest and funniest people ever.   A jewel to have as a co-worker and as a friend, and he was so very proud of his precious family.

Richard was THE upholstery man to call for assistance.  At a former employer, I was the staff member who got to work directly with him for repairs.  Always received a smile and a positive word from him.   He is resting in Glory now!!!!

Richard Jr. sorry to hear the passing of your father praying for you and rest of family. I remember your father when they lived in Lonsdale in fact your father did some work on one of my chair. Your Aunt Nora and I finishing high school together. May memories comfort you all.
