Ricky Eugene Smith, age 70, passed away on July 30, 2026. Born February 12, 1956, Ricky will be remembered as a beloved and cherished presence—steady in spirit, gentle in manner, and marked by a kind-hearted devotion that touched those who had the privilege to know him. A resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, Ricky’s life reflected quiet strength, faithful commitment, and deep care for others.
Ricky’s early years were shaped by a dedication to learning and personal growth. He graduated from Doyle High School in 1974. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science and Education in 1978, followed by a Masters of Science in 1980—achievements that spoke to his perseverance and the thoughtful purpose he brought to each season of life.
Ricky carried that same steadfastness into his working years. He worked at Roman Haus for 15 years, and later retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services after 22 years of service. Through the years, his work reflected the same qualities that defined him personally: a devoted reliability, a considerate nature, and a sincere respect for the people around him.
Ricky was preceded in death by parents, Eugene Smith and Jeanette Green Smith; his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Brown Smith. He is survived by his cousin, Tony Green (Susie).
Visitation will be held at Berry Highland South, Magnolia Chapel, 9010 E. Simpson Rd, Knoxville, TN 37920, on August 9, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow beginning at 4:00 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at Lenoir City Cemetery, 283 Monument St, Lenoir City, TN 37772, on August 10, 2026, at 11:00 am.
