
Graves, Robert Emerson, age 82, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2012 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was born January 23, 1930, the son of the late Wesley and Elda Graves. After attending Young High School, he served 6 years in The United States Navy where he was a weather observer stationed in Newfoundland. He was a graduate of The University of Tennessee in finance and retired after many years of employment with TVA. He enjoyed playing tennis with friends and vacationing at the beach with family. A long-time member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church, he enjoyed annual summer trips to Camp John Knox, where he enjoyed boating with friends and was known as “Captain Bob”. He was an avid fan of the game of basketball. He coached neighborhood leagues with much success and later coached as an assistant at Maryville College. In his years of retirement, he enjoyed volunteering with The Red Cross, FISH, Boys Club and Remote Area Medical. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Graves Cate and son, Matthew Graves, former wife, Lavonne Graves, daughter-in-law Glenda Graves, son-in-law Randy Cate, and grandsons Nathan and Andrew Graves. Special thanks to family friend Roland Julian. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Remote Area Medical Foundation, 1834 Beech Street, Knoxville, TN 37920. Family and friends will meet 11 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday, April 27, 2012 for an interment service with the Rev. Dr. Bill Barron officiating.
