

Haws, Robert Joseph, 82, a lifelong resident of South Knoxville and the Island Home Community, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014. Robert was a member of Fort Hill Baptist Church. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1949; graduated from U.T. Law School with a Doctorate of Juris Prudence in 1963. Robert worked for Silver Fleet and Mason Dixon Transportation and was also a real estate investor. Robert practiced law for 46 years. Robert was a 2nd Lt. in the U.T. R.O.T.C. and served 2 years in the U.S. Army. Robert was an avid U.T. Vols football fan. Preceded in death by parents, Claude C. and Olive Smith Haws; brothers, Claude Haws, Jr. and James Albert Haws; sister, Mary Katherine Everhart; and aunt, Grace Flanagan. Survived by wife of 60 years, Dorcas Inez Howard Haws; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Phillip Essary, Melanie and Khader Sakalla; grandchildren, Jason Essary (Erin), Lindsey Essary, Hannah Sakalla, Iman (Mannie) Sakalla; great-grandchildren, Harper Ann Essary, James Phillip Essary; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to special caregiver, Billie Childress. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 6:00-8:00pm at Berry Funeral Home Chapman Highway. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Thursday, December 11, 2014 for an 11:00am graveside service with Rev. Edwin Cloud officiating.
