Robert Ernest Jones

Robert “Bobby” Ernest Jones, age 93, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at his home on, March 18, 2021. Mr. Jones was a founding member of Norwood Presbyterian Church. In addition, he was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church and Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Bobby was a Merchant Marine and also served in the United States Marine Corp. Mr. Jones retired from ORNL in Oak Ridge, TN. He enjoyed cheering on the Lady Vols. In his younger years, he played softball, tennis and was a competitive bowler. Bobby also coached many Little League teams in the early 60’s. He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Venita “Nita” Sutton Jones; daughter Vickie Whitworth; parents Thomas E. and Margaret Effie Jones and brother Jimmy Jones. Survived by sons, Barry (Chellie) Jones and Kenny (Jackie) Jones; grandchildren, Mitchell Jones, Allison (Jared) Sinclair and Alex Jones; great-grandchildren, Conner, Jennings, Jeb and Collins Sinclair; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4-6pm on Sunday at Weaver Funeral Home with a service to follow at 6pm. Family will meet Monday at 12:45pm for a 1pm interment service at Oak Ride Memorial Park.
