Mrs. Steen Meryweather in Bangor Maine on June 7th,1958. Rod attended Mount
Desert High School in Bar Harbor, Maine.
Rod enlisted in the United States Navy immediately upon graduation from High School
and achieved the rank of Quarter Master One. He volunteered for submariner duty and
spent the majority of his service aboard submarines and in special operations. He was
deployed world-wide including the Arctic Circle and saw combat action in Kosovo and
elsewhere. Rod received the Purple Heart and multiple other medals. He retired after 20
years of service to his country.
Rod later made a living working for the NSA, as a Banking SOX compliance internet
security specialist and with medical institutions helping them with HIPPA compliance. He
enjoyed many hobbies including sailing, woodworking, tennis and gardening. He was a
volunteer diver for the Knoxville Rescue Squad and President-elect for one of the
Knoxville chapters of the Rotary club. He was an adult volunteer for the Young Marines
and recently started serving with the Sea-Scouts, part of the Boy Scouts of America.
Rod, along with wife Alicia served as Bible Fellowship Coordinators in Knoxville for
many years. Rod was a fervent Biblical student and took joy in teaching others about
the greatness of God's Word. Rod has blessed many over the years with his hospitality
and his willingness to serve.
Besides his wife Alicia, Rod is survived by his mother Geraldine, his step-Mother, Janet,
Mother-in-law Garnet, his son Zachariah, Alexander and his wife Rose, and grandchild
Rowan. He is also survived by his step-son Caden, wife Karina, step-daughter Katie,
her husband Kenneth and his twin grand sons Bowman and Gaines.
Our beloved Rod fell asleep on April 18th 2019 and awaits the return of our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
Family and friends will gather for a Recognition Service at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919 at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2019. The service will be officiated by Reverend Jack Diers. A reception will immediately follow the service.
