

Ruby Mae Avans, age 91, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 18, 2017. She was a longtime member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Albert Gene Avans; parents Robert and Fannie Clouse; and four siblings. She is survived by her children Dave (Linda) Avans; Virgil (Brenda) Avans; Joy (Gerald) Fender; Darryl (Carol) Avans; Craig (Suzanne) Laman; grandchildren: Brad (Hope) Avans; Chris (Kimberly) Avans; Jenni (Barry) Combs; Jay (Demetra) Avans; Dillon (Lyndsey) Avans; Cody (Stephanie) Avans; Brad (Lori) Laman; Joy (Tom) Mann; Brett (Kim) Fender; Darren (Christina) Fender: several great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ben Atchley State Veterans Home for their loving care of our dear mother. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm, Rev. Richard Richter officiating. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 11:00 am for the interment.
