

Rufus (Sonny) Atchley Brown, Jr., age 73, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 23, 2018 at UT Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was a member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Vietnam with the 5th Division Mechanized as a combat photographer. He was awarded a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service in combat. He retired from Sears with 42 years of service. Sonny was a 50 year member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge Number 763 F&AM. For the past 40 years, he owned and operated his own concession stand at the Tennessee Valley Fair and looked forward to this annual event with great anticipation. He coached Little League Baseball for many years. Sonny was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Katherine Brown and brother Tommy Brown. He was survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Marie Faye Walton Brown; sons, Kevin Allen Brown and wife Missy; Michael Douglas Brown and wife Lori; grandchildren: William and Aaron Brown; Chase Doane and wife Emily; Ryan Doane and wife Miranda; Chassidy Galyon and husband Tyler; and seven great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jeffrey Hirsh and the staff at UT Medical Center for their faithful care. Family will receive friends Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM, Rev.
