She was born September 2, 1928 in Sevier County. Ruth was a devoted Christian and a member of Galilee Baptist Church, Knoxville where she served in Vacation Bible School as well as GA's and Acteens and was active with their military outreach. She was a stay at home Mom for many years and worked for 15 years at Promises Child Enrichment Center working with children.
Ruth was preceded in death by husband, John Isham Shields Sr.; parents, James and Mariah Clabo; sister, Ruby Hall; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and John "Jay" Franklin; brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Geneva Clabough.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Sandy and Carl Cunningham, Lynda and Jeff Humphrey; son and daughter-in-law, John and Charlotte Shields; granddaughter, Lauren (Robert) Garner; grandsons, Adam Humphrey and Jason (Ashly) Cunningham, Brent (Rose) Cunningham; great-grandchildren: Gracyn, Bo and Barrett Garner, Oscar Cunningham, Austin Waldrip, Addison Waldrip and Asher Cunningham; brother-in-law, Joe Hall and special great niece, Peyton Summers and great nephew, Ethan Stubbs.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 27, 2022 between the hours of 5:00pm until 7:00pm in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville with a service to follow at 7:00pm officiated by Rev. Glenn Leffew. Family and friends will meet Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, 132 Bethel Church Road, Townsend for an 11:00am Interment Service.
