

Samuel R (Rudy) Henley, age 90, was born in Roanoke, VA, on May 18, 1926, to Samuel Worley and Pauline Rowe Henley. He went to join his beloved wife Freddie on March 23, 2017. Rudy was the much beloved patriarch of the Henley clan and leaves behind his brother, Don Henley, sister-in-law, Shirley Daniels; as well as his three sons, Dick (Patty), Dan (Kathy), and Don (Annabel). Rudy’s legacy includes eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Rudy was a devoted member of the Church of God. He, along with his close friend, Frank Vandergriff, built the Community First Church of God in Seymour. In recent years he was a faithful member of the First Church of God on Westland Drive. Rudy graduated from ETSU and worked for TVA all of his adult life. During World War II, he served with the Seabees in Iwo Jima. After retiring, he and Freddie operated two gift shops, The Briar Patch and Clara’s Collectibles. Rudy was a long time resident of the Island Home community and a supporter of the Tennessee School for the Deaf. His two dogs Scooter and Little Bit were his great comfort in his later years. A celebration of Rudy’s life will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Berry Funeral Home on Chapman Highway. His service of military interment will be Friday, March 31, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway.
