Sandra (Haun) Brooks, 80, of Knoxville, TN went home to her Heavenly Father on May 28th, 2025, while in residence at Ridgeview Terrace of Life Care in Rutledge. She was born October 14, 1944 in Fresno, CA while her mother Hazel traveled with her father Orville Haun Sr. during his service in the U.S. Air Force. A devout Christian throughout her life, she worshiped at Childress Street Mission, Meadow View Baptist Church, and Saint George Greek Orthodox Church. Her faith guided every step of her journey. Sandy was a graduate of South High School and went on to attend nursing school to become a registered nurse, dedicating over 30 years to caring for others. She served with compassion and skill at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and University of Tennessee Home Health & Hospice, leaving a lasting impact on countless patients and their families. Many of her closest lifelong friends were fellow nurses.
Affectionately known as “Nurse Mom,” Sandy generously volunteered her time and medical expertise with the South-Doyle High School marching band, supporting students during band camps and competitions. She had a deep love for travel and adventure, creating lifelong memories with her son through trips to beaches, theme parks, football games, mountain retreats, and even a journey through Europe.
Her retirement years were filled with joy as she spent time with her pets and her grandchildren. She had a pitcher of fresh iced tea or a dream pie ready for visitors. While relaxing at home, she enjoyed an eclectic variety of movies and TV shows. She pursued a lifelong love of photography, never missing a chance to capture the beauty of the landscape around her or create memories for friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Orville Haun, Sr., as well as her brothers: Jack, Jay, & Donald Helmboldt and husband Billy Brooks. She is survived by her brother Orville “Buddy” Haun, Jr., her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Kelsey Brooks, and beloved grandchildren: Logan, Beckett, and Lennox; many cousins; nieces;nephews, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy in South Knoxville to celebrate Sandy’s life. A private ceremony with close family will be held the following weekend. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.berryfuneralhome.com
