Our beloved mother, Sandra Leigh Turner, passed away with her family by her side on July 4, 2022, at the age of 71. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Eric Turner and Donna Turner Piercey; mother, Dorothy Watts; sister, Linda Yurko; nieces, Lyndsay Champion and her children, CJ and Olivia, and Kristin Bigford. She will also be dearly missed by her friends and all who knew her at The Alexander House. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Turner, Jr. in 2017 and her father, Joseph T. Watts in 1991.
Our mother was passionate about people in need and created an online ministry to help as many people as she could. She led in-home Bible classes, assisted the prayer team at church, worked with the Wounded Warrior Project, donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation, writing a book in 2001, “O’ But for the Love of God,” about her personal search for a strong relationship with God and her experiences in that time, and enjoying time with her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11a.m. with a reception to follow at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
Memorial Donations may be made in the name of Sandra Leigh Turner to The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to David H. Hauge, MD at Neurosurgical Associates and the Critical Care unit at Parkwest Medical Center, all of whom went above and beyond with such compassion and care for our mother.
