Shirley Ellis

Shirley L. Ellis, age 85, of Seymour, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024. She died comfortably while in hospice care at F.S.R.M.C after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Shirley is now rejoicing in heaven with loved ones. She was a member of Seymour United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending her Sunday school class until she was no longer able to be present. Shirley's career began at Sterchi Brothers Furniture Company corporate office where she worked for 27 years. She was employed at the City Employees Credit Union in Real estate loans for 20 years until her retirement. Her best friend Carol Simmons was by her side at both businesses. Shirley's greatest passion was helping others and rescuing animals. Family and friends were her priority, and many of her friendships began at childhood. With her family, she loved going on beach trips, going to the Smoky Mountains, shopping and going to her favorite restaurants. Also, she treasured her time with Tia and being there to celebrate her accomplishments. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Buford and Mattie Loveday; brother, Buddy (Pat) Loveday; sister, Joyce (Dwight) Catlett. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Herbert Ellis; daughter, Teresa (Rick) Collier; granddaughter, Tia E. Collier; several nieces and nephews,. and special friends, Sam and Tammy Stubbs. Graveside service will be Tuesday August 13, 2024 at 11:00 am at Berry Highland South Cemetery 9010 E. Simpson Road.
