Shirley and Monroe were longtime family friends of ours, my Mom and Dad knew them before I was born and speak of them often. A favorite memory of mine was seeing them on their front porch and stopping for a chat and a drink of the best and coldest water in East Tennessee at "Monroe's Spring". It could be the hottest day of July and that spring water would still be cold enough that just being close to it felt like you had walked into a cooler and the conversation was always friendly. It saddens me that a lot of my Copper Ridge friends have passed on, the majority of my family were friends and neighbors with them for over 100 years. From everything I remember of Shirley, her passing gives us one more reason to want to go to heaven, since we don't have to say goodbye, just I'll see you later.

Much love and prayers for each of you for God to send His Precious Holy Spirit to bring you peace and comfort.

I remember Shirley and Monroe coming over to Ruthie Buffalos house and Monroe getting his hair cut, sometime they would stay and have Sunday Dinner with us Buffalos, they would sit and reminisce about the olden days, i always paid attention to everything being said since i had not been raised with them, I married Ruthie and Charlies son Charles, so since I was the new kid on the block I wanted to learn who everybody was and their relation to each other, found out Monroe and Ruthie were cousins and Monroe and Shirley would do anything they could for you within reason, I grew to care for these folks like I did Charles' family!!! I remember when we got the news about Monroe passing away, I called Shirley 5 or 6 times but she was busy with those grandchildren and I knew she was going to be ok!! Later in 2011 my Charles passed away so I started calling Shirley to see how she had stayed sane all through the years but she always had someone's baby watching it at her house and she told me numerous times, just stay busy!!! We kept in touch for a long time periodically with the exception of this year, last time I called her she was busy and not feeling well so I told her I would get back in touch later but I had been pretty busy too and haven't seen her much since I started dating again about a year and a half ago but the visits and phone calls meant a lot to me after my Charles passed on, I had found a friend who we cried together since Monroe and Charles both were gone. Grant you, a lot of our talking was done by phone because neither one of us wanted to burden our children and grandchildren with our hurt and loneliness , sadness and anger issues because our hubands were no longer here. Today I found out on Facebook that Shirley passed away yesterday, she was a good friend to me, i have no doubt that her and Monroe are at last together once again. Rest In Peace my friend and give my Charles a big hug from me! Barbara Buffalo

Cheryl and Family, I am saddened by the passing of your precious mother. It seems your family has had such sorrow for a time. But it is for such a time as this that we tightly clench the Unseen Hand and know that there is a reunion on the horizon. Love, Shelby Fox Haun
