Stephen L. Burnette “Steve”, of Powell, Tennessee passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 14, 2021 after nearly 73 years of life.

Steve was born on April 3, 1948 in Knox County, Tennessee to John and Helen Burnette. As a boy, he lived mostly with his grandmother until the US military took over his raising at the age of 17 where the Vietnam war finished the (very difficult) job of turning him into a man. At the age of 39, Steve accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and soon after began blessing the children’s ministry at Temple Baptist Church with his jokes.

In 1978, he met the love of his life, Shirley Burnette. Over the last 43 years, they have traveled all over the world together, mostly via cruise ship, but Steve’s favorite memories always included their children, grandchildren and late dog, Jasmine. Together they shared 7 children, Angela Teffeteller, Jill Sisson, Tony Burnette (Monica), Mark Teffeteller, Stephen Burnette, Daryl Teffeteller (Sandy), Leslie Satterfield; 12 grandchildren, Alicia Sisson, Taylor Burnette, Jacob Burnette, Xavier Satterfield, Elijah Teffeteller, Ray Sisson, Lauren Satterfield, Destiny Teffeteller, Nicholas Burnette, Wesley Teffeteller, Alex Burnette, Macy Teffeteller; and 5 great grandchildren. Steve loved anything sweet, traveling, his wife, Shirley, his late dog, Jasmine, making people laugh, singing out of tune, and making up his own words to every song he sang. Not necessarily in that order. He hated vegetables and hypocrites. Not necessarily in that order. Steve loved to tell stories and you could be sure that 50% of every story was true. You just never knew which 50%. He liked to buck the system and never took life too seriously. This humorous, adventurous, and spirited man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed.

He was preceded in death by parents, John Burnette and Helen Staley; daughter, Alicia Burnette; grandchild, Jamie Teffeteller; brother, Tom Burnette; and sister, Rhonda Ahmad. Steve is survived by loving wife, Shirley Burnette; their 7 children; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Robert Burnette (Janice) and Michael Staley; sisters, Connie Pacholic (Pete) and Karen Mashburn; a host of nieces, nephews, beloved friends, as well as Temple Baptist Church family.

All are welcome to the Visitation on Wednesday, February 17 from 5pm-7pm at Temple Baptist Church in Powell, Tennessee. Funeral Services will immediately follow the visitation. A private Graveside Service will be held for close friends and family on Thursday, February 18. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crown College Scholarship fund. Steven was the eldest of us 7, a good man with a heart of gold with a wonderful sense of humor. All who met him - loved him! Sitting and listening to his life stories ( some embellished I’m sure😉) was always one of my favorite things to do when we visited with him. He had a zest for life, and he loved his family. He will be greatly missed! We will forever carry your memories in our hearts we love you Steve. I was proud to be your sister ❤️ thank you for all the memories and the laughter - till we meet again...kiss mom, Tommy and Rhonda for me 💕
