

Theda Mae Welch Smith, age 94, of the Karns Community passed away Friday December 11, 2015. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for 57 years, where she served as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, Training Union leader, pianist, circle leader in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), and as a children’s worker. Theda graduated from Central High school and UT, was a Volette in the UT band, taught at Pleasant Ridge School and was an accomplished musician. Theda and Wade were involved in the TVA Test Demonstration Farm Program which brought visitors from Vietnam and other countries to their farm to observe how it was run. Preceded in death by husband of 71 years Wade W. Smith, parents Simeon and Stella Welch and sister Ruth Lawson.
Survived by daughters, Wilma (Charles) Teague, Mary (Robert) Carey, and Angela (Steve) Fann; grandchildren, Cheryl (Curt) Fields, Sandra (Peter) Fodelmesi, Jennifer Carey, David (Melissa) Carey, Michael (Cara) Carey, Alan Fann, and Melanie (Eric) Bass; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, and Rachael Fields, Jaylon and Jack Carey, Bryson, Branning, Bailey and Brynlee Carey; several nieces and nephews. Theda was thankful to the many friends who shared her long and happy life. The family would like to thank all the staff at West Hills Health & Rehab for the excellent loving compassionate care given to Theda during her stay. The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, at Weaver's Chapel, and the funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m., with Reverends Dr. Ron Stewart, Alfred Royer, Mike Thomas and Mark Braddom officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m., Tuesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 1:00 p.m. interment. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a ministry of your choice at Grace Baptist Church.
