Thera Edna Upchurch Carr

Thera Edna Upchurch Carr passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the age of eighty-eight. Thera was born near Jamestown, Tennessee, one of the ten children of Perry and Sylvia Upchurch. She and her siblings attended York Agricultural Institute, and Thera also attended Knoxville Business College. She was married to Kenneth Carr for thirty-eight years until his passing in 1995. She was a loving wife and mother, who made a beautiful home for her family. Thera was a longtime resident of the Karns community, taking an active role in the Karns schools’ PTA, the Karns Community Club, Girl Scouts, and Grace Baptist Church. She was always thinking of others, especially those who were less fortunate. Her volunteer hours were immeasurable as she worked diligently to support her community and church. Thera took pleasure in many activities such as traveling, square dancing, clogging, running, and playing dulcimer, and she was also an adept maker of clothing, quilts, needlework, and basketry. Predeceasing Thera are her parents Perry and Sylvia Upchurch; her husband Kenneth Carr; and her sisters Maggie Bloomer, Dean Ernst, Kay Lawson, Wilma Upchurch, and Jonnie O’Neal. She is survived by daughters Valerie Carr Sigmon and Amy Carr-Richardson; sons-in-law Tim Sigmon and Mark Richardson; grandchildren Andy Sigmon, Perry Sigmon, and Cecilia Richardson; granddaughter-in-law Rachel Sigmon; great-granddaughter Ellie Sigmon; sisters Brenda Franklin and Alice Faye Marvin; brother-in-law Ben Franklin; sister-in-law Darlene Upchurch; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Baptist Church.Visitation will be held at Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave, Knoxville, TN 37921, on April 18, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Berry Highland Memorial on April 18, 2026, at 3:00 pm.Serving as pallbearers are grandsons Andy Sigmon and Perry Sigmon; and nephews Ronnie Lawson, Bill Lawson, Jeff Bloomer, and Matt Upchurch.
