Theresa Ann Wright, age 84, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024. She was born in Monroeville, AL, the oldest of three children of Roy and Maureen Baggett. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, William H. Wright Jr., former Head baseball coach at the University of Tennessee.
She is survived by her brothers, Don (Helen) Baggett, of Hot Springs Village, AR and Mike Baggett, of Monroeville, AL; nephew, Jeff (Michelle) Baggett; nieces, Andrea (Eric) Parnell, Michele (Taylor) Crutchfield; great nephews, Hunter Donald, Connor Parnell, Evan Parnell,and Cole Baggett; great nieces, Haley Donald, and Anna Baggett. In addition she is survived by her step daughter Cassie (Don) Zalawski; grandchildren, Bradley (Stephanie) Wright, Lindsay Wright, Jessica (Jeff) Graef, Kacey (Taylor) Kiste, Landon (Katelyn) Wright; great-grandchildren, Maris Graef, and Gus Graef, Solan Wright, Ophelia and Archie Kiste, Hudson, Brody, and Cooper Wright.
She received a B.S. in Education from Auburn University and a M.A. in English from the University of Mississippi. She did additional graduate work at the University of Southern Mississippi, Auburn University, the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and the University of Tennessee.
She spent 37 years in Education, teaching in Dayton, Ohio; Monroe, Louisiana; Birmingham, Alabama; and Knoxville, TN, where she retired from Pellissippi State as an Associate Professor of English.
After retirement she spent nearly twenty years as a volunteer in the Emergency Department and surgery lounge at the U.T. Medical Center. Although she did not have a medical background, she loved soaking up medical knowledge. As a volunteer she served in several positions: Secretary, Treasure, and later Vice-President and President.
In the Emergency Department and in life she tried to show compassion and generosity to those facing some of life's greatest challenges.
She loved reading, a love she inherited from her mother. She contributed her compassion to the influence of her father. She and her husband traveled extensively abroad. Theresa will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to call her friend. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. David N. Aljadir and the entire staff at the U.T.
