AILEY, THOMAS CHUMLEY - age 85, of Karns, went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2013. He was of the Methodist faith. A seven-year stroke survivor, he succumbed to complications following a second stroke, during recovery from a brief illness. Tom was born in Newport, TN, and grew up in Tazewell, TN. In 1954, he married his sweetheart, Ellen Chadwell before shipping out to serve in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict. He retired from IBM after a 30-year career as a Customer Service Technician. He was a tender, patient, wise and loving father and husband who treasured time spent with his family. Tom was a born tinkerer and a first-rate mechanic who always had a project underway and freely shared his time and talents with family, friends and acquaintances. His interest in all things automotive never waned; he was especially fond of antique cars, and found much satisfaction in restoring, repairing and driving them, and hobnobbing with fellow enthusiasts in several car clubs. Preceded in death by parents, Luther C. and Launa Chumley Ailey; and sister, Jimmie Louise Clark. Left to treasure his memory are Ellen Ailey, his devoted wife of 58 years; daughter Elaine and son David; sister Alma Glynn Millett and husband Rich; brother Luther Doyle Ailey; first cousin William G. Chumley and wife Peggy; loyal friend and caregiver Nancy Capps and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Weaver Funeral Home with chapel service to follow at 7:00 pm. Rev. Mark Braddom officiating. Family and friends will meet 12:15 pm Thursday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for a 12:30 pm interment. Honorary pallbearers: William E. Campbell, DDS; William Cloud, MD; Dewey Cruey.
