Uldrick John "Swede" Hanson, age 95, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21 at Deane Hill Place in Knoxville. He was born on January 14, 1923 in Rothsay, Minnesota, the son of Haldor and Martha Hanson, homesteaders from Norway. Swede enlisted in the Army in 1943 where he served in the 571st Air Transport Command until 1946. After WWII, he worked for Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and Southern Railroad for 10 years. Swede worked for ConAgra as Transportation Manager in Knoxville and Jacksonville, Florida until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Bearden United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 66 years Joyce Dula Hanson, brother Calmer Hanson, sister Gina Noyes, and sister Thelma Flatin. He is survived by his daughter Martha McNeil (Greg) of Knoxville, son Ron Hanson (Edith) of France, daughter Karen Clark (Jimmy) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, nine grandchildren and a great grandson. His beaming friendly smile and greeting of "I don't have an ache or pain in my body, praise the Lord!" will be sadly missed by family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Deane Hill Place for their loving care in his final years. A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 24 for immediate family members at the Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel.
