Verna Mae Allen (Sisk) - Born August 26, 1932. She was 93 years old on July 13th, when she went on to meet the Lord and loved ones in Glory. She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed growing both crops, and flowers. Being an only child, she was an extremely independent woman, as well as a near perfectionist at most things she put her mind to doing. She raised three sons, and for many years of her life, she was also a caretaker of many family members in need.
Her favorite memories include racing a local neighborhood police officer in her '49 Ford; working at Fort Sanders in labor and delivery in the early 1950s; volunteering at a local nursing home by planning events and going on many adventures with her husband through the years.
Verna was simply a stern, yet extremely loving woman. She worked hard for everything she had. Her no-nonsense attitude seemed aloof to some, but was enduring to the majority. She was the pride of her husband, and her parents. She was a one of a kind, once in a lifetime woman. She was loved, and is missed.
Preceded in death by her husband of nearly 69 years, Charles Douglas Allen Sr; her youngest son, Charles Douglas Allen Jr; her mother, Beulah Mae Cox Sisk; and her father, John R. Sisk.
Survived by sons; Michael Hammond (Susan), and Steven Allen. Four grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday, July 19th at Weaver Funeral Home.
Family and friends will meet Monday, 10:45 am at Woodlawn Cemetery for an 11:00am graveside service. Condolences are welcome at weaverfuneralservices.com.
