Virginia E. (Greene) Mulkey, age 68, peacefully embraced eternal rest December 5, 2020. She was born August 16, 1952 in Jefferson City, TN the eldest daughter of the late Dennis and Betty Greene. Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Connie Kirby and Debbie Greene; brother-in-law Rickie Kirby. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Buddy Mulkey; their three children, Jennifer Mulkey King, Christopher Mulkey (Jama Higgs), Jeffrey Mulkey (Megan); six grandchildren, Jodie King, Jacob King (Taylor Hendrickson), Riley Evatt, Dawson Mulkey, Zadan Smith, MJ Smith; one great-granddaughter, Lila Jane King; sister Brenda Jolly (Dewayne); and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. Virginia only ever wanted to be a Mama and was sure to be involved in whatever activity, club, or sport that her children were a part of; Girl Scouts troop Leader, Boy Scouts Pack Master, room mom, field trip chaperone, and soccer mom to name a few. She made sure to support her grandchildren in their activities too, whether it was a game, performance, or a baptism, she was always there. For the last 17 years Virginia worked for CAC/Knoxville Head Start as a cook. There, everyone knew her as Ms. Virginia, even the children, and they loved her cooking! She loved her Head Start family at the North location and missed seeing and cooking for them. Virginia loved to craft, was a gifted seamstress and cake baker. She was a quiet, kind, gentle woman who would show her appreciation and love through her many gifts that she gave. It was our blessing and privilege to receive anything that she made. The family would like to thank Dr. Wahid Hanna and Hanna Cancer Associates; Nurse Practitioners, Nicole and Bonnie with UT Palliative Care; Nurses, Christina and Brittany; Aides, Rachel and Amanda and Social Worker, Marie with UT Hospice for caring for Virginia throughout this year. Also, to those who have prayed and continue to do so, sent cards of love and encouragement, gift cards, prepared and sent meals, texts, and called throughout this year, there will never be words adequate to express the gratitude of Virginia and her family.
Per Virginia’s request the family will have a private viewing at Berry Funeral Home with a public graveside service at 2:00pm Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mike Shuemaker will be officiating the service. Berry Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
