November 27, 1941 – October 30, 2025
Mr. Walter “Walt” Ernest Wieser, son of the late Ernst and Elizabeth Wieser, was born on November 27, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the public schools of Queens County, NY, and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1959. A man of deep faith, Walt was a devoted member of Ridgeview Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN, where he found spiritual comfort and fellowship throughout his life.
Walt was an active and cherished member of his local Senior Center, where he participated in a variety of activities with his friends, including playing pool, chess, dancing, and ping-pong. His warm, outgoing personality and generous spirit endeared him to many, and he was loved by all who knew him. Walt quietly passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2025, at his home in Powell, TN.
Born and raised in the Ridgewood neighborhood of Queens, NY, Walt’s early years were marked by a lifelong commitment to service. After joining the U.S. Army Artillery Branch, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service before beginning a distinguished career as a Police Officer with the New York City Transit Authority. Following his retirement, he made his home in the Knoxville area, where he lived for 25 years, contributing to his community and forming lasting relationships.
Walt’s Christian life was simple yet profound, and his influence will forever be felt by those whose lives he touched. Known for his friendly nature, he could often be seen taking long walks around his neighborhood and the surrounding rural areas, striking up conversations with both people and pets—he was always prepared with dog treats in his pocket. He also enjoyed spending time in his backyard garden, where he took great pride in growing tomatoes and peppers, his favorite plants.
He is survived by his loving sister, Lana (Nicholas) Romano; his niece, Jessica (Ronald) Zacharias; and his great-nephews, Dylan and Tyler. Walt is also survived by his dear friend, Molly Hyatt.
Walter E. Wieser will be laid to rest at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 am, Thursday, November 13, 2025 for a 10:00 am interment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Ridgeview Baptist Church in his honor.
