Wesley Walton Waggoner

WAGGONER, WESLEY WALTON, - age 86, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at his home in Powell. He was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Smith Waggoner; parents, Henry and Edna Waggoner; brothers, Henry Waggoner, Jr. and James Waggoner; daughter-in-law, Vicki Waggoner. Mr. Waggoner is survived by his children, sons, Wayne Waggoner and Darryle Waggoner; daughter, Sandra Waggoner; grandson, Weston Waggoner. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Barbour. Mr. Waggoner spent his career as a mortician with most of his employment at Weaver Funeral Home. He assisted many families during that time and was one of the longest tenured morticians in the area. His life was surrounded by music starting at a young age singing with his family The Waggoner Family and later singing with The Tennesseans and The Mellodiaires. At one time, he co-hosted a radio program and hosted a television program of Southern Gospel Music. On the first weekend in August for over 25 years Wesley and his brother, Jim, were the Masters of Ceremony at the Renfro Valley, Kentucky all-night gospel singing. He was a good man who never met a stranger and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. The Waggoner family would like to express their thanks for all the care given by many family members and friends, but especially the compassionate care given to him by Dr. Jeffrey Drinnen and his staff at Summit Medical Group Fountain City, as well as Dr. Michael Brunson. A special thank you to Joyce Thomas and Larry Smith for their love and care. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Tuesday, February 24th at Weaver Funeral Home with a celebration of life service to follow at 7 pm.
