

A devoted husband, father, grandfather “Papaw” and great-grandfather, Bill’s life was shaped by love, kindness, and a deep spiritual faith in Jesus, that guided his every step.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Reba Lauvanne “Van” Childress, who was his constant companion and closest confidante. He is preceded in death by his parents, Obie M. Childress and Thressa M. Childress; sister, Glenda (Fay) Lumpkin from the Blue Grass Community.
Bill leaves behind a legacy in his children and grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy: son, David (Karen) Childress and his children Travis (Amy) Childress and Rebecca Stapleton, and their mother, Sally Childress. David’s loving wife, Karen, and her children, Ronnie (Becky) Dimaline and Makaelyn Dyke; son, Doug Childress, with his daughter Sarah (Ronnie) Holmes and son Peyton (Hallie) Childress. Bill was also a proud great-Papaw who he cherished every moment with the next generation of his family. He also has three living siblings; brother Wade (Cindy) Childress, sister Joyce (Bill) McConkey, Ron Childress.
Bill will be remembered for his gentle spirit, boundless generosity, and the wisdom he imparted to those around him. His spiritual faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing strength and comfort to his family and friends.
A service to honor Bill’s life will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home on Kingston Pike. Friends will be received from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. The graveside service will take place on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Though he is no longer with us, his faith, love, and legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. All believers in Jesus will see him again in heaven.
