He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawerance and Jeanette Mynatt, and his sister and brother-in-law, Delphia and Tom Clapp.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sara L. Mynatt; daughter, Tammy Lawson (Phil); son, William S. Mynatt Jr. (April); grandchildren: Brent and Addie Lawson, Hannah and Parker Horne, Jonah and Hayden Lawson, Kaylee and Zach Wolfe, and Haleigh Lawson. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Savannah Horne, beloved dog, Peaches, along with extended family and loved ones who will cherish his memory.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Bill served honorably in the United States Army (1964-1967).
He dedicated 38 years of his career to the Knoxville News Sentinel, where he was a valued member of the newspaper family.
A lifelong sports fan, Bill enjoyed cheering on the TN Vols, the Atlanta Braves, and following NASCAR. His greatest joy was restoring classic cars and especially his 1940 Chevy Deluxe. These were some of the things he enjoyed sharing with family and friends through the years.
Bill will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his years of dedicated work, his love of sports, and the many memories he created throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former coworkers, and all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920 with a Funeral Service to follow at 7:00 PM officiated by Rev. Rocky Glenn.
