William “Turk” Patterson, age 89, a jack of all trades, left his workshop for the final time on March 8. Having retired from the Knoxville Police Department in 2002, Turk never retired from life and lived every day to the fullest. He thoroughly enjoyed being around people, especially Jean Safranic, his “better half” for the past 17 years.
Preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters, he was the last surviving child of Rollo and Winnie Patterson. His beloved daughter, Brenda Sue Shipe, and his former wife, Bridgett Ann Patterson, preceded him in death.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cheryl Patterson; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Dean Shipley; son-in-law, Jack Shipe; grandchildren, Sara Hurst, Dareth (Matt) Hall, Daniel Shipley, and Hannah Vasquez; great-children, Callee, Parker and Gavin Hall and his namesake, Will Hurst.
The family will receive friends at South Knoxville Church of Christ, 4604 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920, on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, with a memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to South Knoxville Church of Christ, Hands and Feet Program or the charity of your choice. Online condolences and fond memories may be shared with the Patterson family at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
