William "Skip" Stigall

Skip was born and raised in Missouri, where he spent his early years working alongside his father and grandfather on the family farm. He learned to drive at the age of twelve and excelled in school, where he played saxophone and served as captain of the basketball team and president of the student council. Skip was selected to take part in President Eisenhower’s People to People program in 1966 and frequently reminisced about his travels in Europe.

Skip attended Central Methodist University before beginning a 44-year long career with Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he was deeply respected and well loved by his trainmasters, coworkers, and superiors. While working at Norfolk Southern, he met the love of his life, Kimberly. They were married for 30 years and had two children together. Skip enjoyed several years of retirement after leaving the railroad in 2016.

A proud and lifelong patriot, Skip held a deep love for the United States of America. He took great pride in flying and caring for numerous American flags always displayed on his property.

Throughout his life, Skip was known to be a skilled handyman and talented carpenter. He loved tending to his lawn, growing tomatoes and flowers in his garden, and feeding the many birds that gathered at the abundance of bird feeders hanging in every corner of his yard. Skip was always building or fixing something and was happy to help build a fence, a deck, or any home improvements and repairs for his friends and family. He enjoyed shopping for new tools and spending time in his workshop. Skip also had a passion for the outdoors, especially fishing and camping.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” Stigall in 2012 and Bessie Stigall in 2018. He is survived by his beloved wife Kimberly Diane Stigall and his four children, William Scott Stigall, Stephanie Lynn Davis, Megan Stigall, and Nicholas Stigall.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial service in his honor.
