

Alfred Wayne Dunbar, 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 29th, 2019. Wayne was born to Carl and Marie Dunbar on December 14th, 1924 in Logansport, Indiana. He graduated from Logansport High School in 1943 then went on to serve our country in the United States Army Air Corps as an instructor pilot during World War II. After, he continued his military career in the Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Later, Wayne worked at World Color Press, formerly known as Cuneo Press, retiring in 1987.
Wayne married his wife of over 70 years, Alice Joan Ellis, on April 16th, 1945, and she preceded him in passing on December 15th, 2015.
Wayne enjoyed golf, bowling, and tennis. In his younger years, Wayne played basketball for the Logansport Berries. He loved to attend the Air Force reunions. Wayne was very active volunteering in the Goodfellows. He was involved in moving St. Joan of Arc from the Markland location to the Dixon location, and was key in starting the Sunshine Club. Wayne loved spending time with his grandkids. Wayne will be missed by all who knew him.
Wayne leaves behind his children JoEllen Cox, John Dunbar, Terence (Vinya) Dunbar, Brian (Nancy) Dunbar; grandchildren Jenna (George) Rickus, Stephanie (Patrick) Wilson, Misty (Matthew) Wert, Kevin (Leticia) Dunbar, Olivia (fiancé Roshan Ishanpara) Dunbar, and Zoe Dunbar; great-grandchildren George "GEJ" Rickus, Lauren Rickus, Hudson Wert, Graham Wilson, Grayson Wert, and a great-granddaughter Wilson on the way.
Wayne is preceded in passing by his wife; son-in-law Edward Cox; 2 brothers, Carl and Skip and 2 sisters, Kate and Lois.
Friends and family may visit from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday June 2nd, at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 3rd at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 South 200 West, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. Wayne will be laid to rest with full military honors at Sunset Memory Garden following the service.
