Anita Lynn Faulkner

Anita Lynn Faulkner (Hurd), 77, of Unionville, IN, passed away on July 20 , 2026, in Indianapolis, IN. She was born March 14, 1949 in Kokomo, IN to the late Charles (Charlie or Bob) and Emmogene (Jean) Hurd.

Anita started her family as well as her work life shortly after graduating from Western High School in 1967. She worked with Greeno Insurance in Kokomo until she switched from insurance to investing with KJ Brown & Company, also in Kokomo. She then settled in with Smith Gaylor, Inc, now Sycamore Financial Group, in Kokomo, and with great support from her boss and incredible self-determination, she sprinted up the corporate ladder. She was registered with Sycamore Financial as a Registered Representative, Principal, Director, Vice President, and Owner. She dedicated more than 40 years to her clients and co-workers, building relationships and keeping the office in order up until her last day in May. While work consumed a large portion of her time, she relished dinners and long talks with good friends and family about life, sports, gardens, and the state of the world.

But more than work, Anita lived every minute of her life for her daughters, Kim and Karen, and their families. To say she loved spending time with them would be a huge understatement. She spent her early days playing with her kids and family on Lake Manitou. She sat through countless Kokomo Chiefs football games, Punchy’s men’s fastpitch softball games, and every KHS basketball, volleyball, and softball game for her girls. She attended every single Mother-Daughter event, Grandparents day, award banquet, birthday party, graduation, wedding, and baby shower. She traveled to endless events for her grandkids, tirelessly swam with them in her pool, and faithfully kept their secrets from their parents. In 2021 she left her hometown to live next door to Kim in Unionville, IN so that she could finally live on a lake. She and her daughters renovated her home together and she spent the years landscaping, enjoying boat rides on the lake, and constantly feeding the birds, which meant also the squirrels, deer, and racoons, who were the bane of her existence.

She was a shark at euchre. She assumed everyone knew the IU basketball schedule and could kick anyone’s tail in March Madness. She was happy to discuss the latest Cubs woes, often accompanied by her infamous eye rolls. And most importantly, she relished the National Championship journey for IU football this past year and was looking forward to the 2026 season.

She will be cherished for creating a family who knew that she loved them fiercely and unconditionally. It was an absolute honor to call her our mom, Grandma Koti, sister, aunt, cousin, friend.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Bob and Jean, a nephew, Brett Hurd, cousin Lindsay Murphy, and several special family members.

Those missing her terribly are her daughters, Kim(Mike) Mayer, Karen (Nate) Sanburn; grandchildren, Zachary (Michelle) Collier, Ty Mayer, Logan (Catherine) Sanburn, Chandler (Katelyn) Sanburn, Mackenzie Sanburn; great-grandchildren, Aspen Sanburn, Haven Sanburn, and her first great grandson due in November; brother, Michael (Linda) Hurd; niece Amy (Deb) Hurd; cousin Melinda (Dave) Murphy.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens on Friday, July 31st from 2pm to 5pm. Her daughters would love for you to tag her Facebook page with a favorite memory or a selfie of you enjoying some flowers in your own gardens! In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Indiana Wildlife Federation would be cherished.
