

Anson Tasso Meeker, 85, Kokomo, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011, in Kokomo. He was born July 22, 1926, in Izard County, Arkansas, to the late Dwight and Edna (Johnson) Meeker. After the untimely death of his father, he was raised by his mother and devoted step-father, the late Stanley C. Turnbull.
At the age of 18, Anson joined the U.S. Army to serve during World War II. On July 4, 1948, Anson moved to Kokomo. Anson married the late Ann Heflin on December 10, 1952 and was a devoted husband until her death in December 1974. After his wife’s death, Anson remained a close member of his wife’s family. Anson worked at Continental Steel Mill for 37 years and retired when the mill closed down in 1985. He was a devout Christian and faithful member of the Church of Christ on Courtland Avenue in Kokomo. During his membership with the church, he served as deacon and was the church treasurer for 45 years.
Anson is survived by and was a devoted father to Margie McFarland and Debra (Greg) Sheline. He was a loving and committed grandfather to David (Silvia) McFarland of Brighton, Michigan; Kami (Bryan) Noland of Fort Wayne; Kelly McFarland of Goldvein, Virginia; Dustin (Sherry) Sheline of Kokomo; Marianne Sheline of Indianapolis; and Kendra McFarland of Kokomo. He was blessed before his death with four great-grandchildren, Joseph and Collin McFarland; Ryder Sheline; and Roxie Noland.
Anson is also survived by two brothers, Leo (Jody) Meeker of Amarillo, Texas and Cornell (Beth Ann) Meeker of Kokomo, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, B. Ross (survived by Betty) Meeker and long time friend, Mary Schroeder.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
